Bats thrive in open country but like to be close to a building with plenty of insects and access to water. Many European bat species are under threat, and putting up bat boxes offers them an alternative home. Many bat species live in holes in tree trunks, but a bat house is a good alternative as there is a lack of old hollow trees.
Place the bat castle three to four meters above the ground and ensure that the entrance/exit is free from obstructions like branches. The bat box should ideally be in a south-facing position away from direct sunlight. Learn more about bats here!
