The northern cardinal is a colourful songbird from eastern United States that has spread from the southern states to as far north as the Canadian border. It nests almost anywhere as long as there are bushes nearby. The male is very territorial and defends its territory with both singing and aggression but during the mating season, he shows his softer side by wooing the female and feeding her.
