The northern cardinal is a colourful songbird from eastern United States. This adaptable bird has spread from the southern states to as far north as the Canadian border. It nests almost anywhere provided there are bushes nearby. The male is very territorial and defends its territory with both singing and aggression. But he also has a softer side. During the mating season, he woos the female by feeding her.
