About the goldfinch:

The goldfinch is a colourful bird with quite an exotic appearance: a light beak and a blood-red face with white cheeks and a black crown. The goldfinch is a seed specialist with a very sharp beak, which can pick seeds from both thistles and burdock. The goldfinch flies south from the most northerly parts of Europe, and it appreciates a well-filled bird table. The nest is itself a work of art made from plaited straw that the female builds up in trees, usually close to other breeding pairs.
