Description

The chiffchaff comes in the early spring, usually April, and stays until October. It likes to sit and sing from a bare twig which lets its song be heard far way. The song, which can be heard from early spring to the autumn, is a repeated”chiff-chaff”, which is the most likely explanation for its name.

Sounds and song

The easiest way to pick out a chiffchaff is through its song. This can be heard from the middle of March and onwards. The bird’s call is also heard frequently.
