Description

The Lesser Whitethroat has very discreet habits and chooses to breed in churchyards, pine groves but even gardens if there are protective bushes and trees.

Appearance

A small songbird with typical marks on its head. Dark cheeks, a grey crown while the throat and neck are white and the belly a greyish-white. The back is otherwise grey-brown.

Similar bird

The whitethroat has a brown-grey head without differing cheeks along with pink legs.

Sounds and song

The song differs from the rest of the songbirds with its two-second rattling sound. Before the rattle there are often some short, warbling notes. The call is short and low.
