They cling to the tips of birch branches and often hang upside down. Some years the country is invaded by redpolls, yet other years there are almost none at all.
Appearance
A slightly greyish-brown bird with a red spot on the forehead, a small black spot on the chin and a deeply cleft tail.
Similar bird
The back has grey stripes, not a soft brown colour like the common linnet.
Sounds and song
The call is fast and can be heard both in flight and from the trees while the song is slightly humming.

It is the female who builds the nest, rather close to the ground.
